Lifestyle changes: My journey towards motherhood

The one thing we can be certain of in life is change is inevitable.

"The greatest discovery of all time is that a person can change his future by merely changing his attitude" - Oprah Winfrey

I always knew that I wanted to be a mum, but determining when that would be was the question I started continually asking myself. When I was younger it seemed like becoming a mum would fall into place easily, however, the older I got the more my goals in life changed and, of course, so did the order of ticking them off.

4 steps to follow when implementing lifestyle changes:

  1. Determine if this change is for you or someone else.

  2. Make a list outlining what you need to achieve for this change to be successful.

  3. Set yourself a realistic timeframe to complete your list.

  4. Implement your lifestyle change.

For me, making the decision to bring a beautiful baby into this world wasn’t one I wanted to rush. So much of our lives are dictated by what society deems acceptable, however, my purpose in life has never been to please society - it’s always been to do what makes me most happy and sets my soul on fire.

"Let go of other people's expectations and immerse yourself in what you truly want"

I didn’t need to be married, but I wanted to be in a loving and supportive relationship.

I didn’t need my dream house, but I wanted a home that I could call my own and, of course, style beautifully.

I didn’t need to be earning the highest income, but I wanted to wake up every day loving my job.

I didn’t need to know how everything would turn out, but I wanted to know I’d be okay no matter what.

Along with the common concerns, it was also essential to me that I was at a point in my life where I felt my best, both physically and mentally. This meant loving myself wholeheartedly, surrounding myself with those who only had my best interests at heart and, most importantly, letting go of any hate and choosing to either forgive and move forward or let go entirely.

I had made the decision that if I was stepping into this next stage of my life, it was going to be with nothing but happiness and taking the time to prepare myself for this journey at the pace that was perfect for me has made the transition to motherhood so enjoyable.

No matter what lifestyle change you may be currently considering, take the time to be your own biggest supporter. Let go of other people's expectations and immerse yourself in what you truly want, because the moment you do is when life stops feeling heavy and instead feels limitless.
